Directional Communication is more than simply managing up or managing down. It's about tailoring your message to the recipient, instead of focusing on what's important to you. The three questions you need to ask yourself:

• Who am I communicating with? 
• What do they care about?
• How can I use this to my advantage / how can I align our goals?

This is about navigation, not manipulation! The intention is clear and honest communication, not winning.
